Cognitive Analysis in Sickle Cell Disease patients
Project type
Research project: Cognitive Science
Date
May 2023 - Ongoing
Location
Pittsburgh
This project utilizes Near-infrared spectroscopy technology to identify unique cognitive impairments in Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) patients. The goal is to pinpoint a unique cognitive signature that is exclusive to SCD. By employing signal processing techniques, such as hemodynamic response analysis and component analyses, we are working to identify unique brain response patterns in SCD patients. These patterns are revealing crucial insights, potentially pinpointing specific cognitive areas that are significantly impacted by the disease. This comparative approach, set against the backdrop of healthy control subjects, is shedding light on the profound cognitive differences imposed by SCD. This project conducted in collaboration with clinicians from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).
